Lawsuit Deadline Alert

When the PACT Act was signed into law on August 10, 2022, it started the clock ticking on victims’ window to file lawsuits under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA). This means that veterans and individuals who were exposed to toxic chemicals at Camp Lejeune have until August 10, 2024 to file their lawsuits to receive compensation.

More than 1 million military and civilians were exposed to toxic water.

Anyone who worked, visited, or was stationed at Camp Lejeune for a 30 day period between 1953 and 1987 was likely exposed to dangerous cancer-causing chemicals in the drinking water.

Carcinogenic chemicals

What was in the water?

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has been investigating the chemicals and substances found in the drinking water at Camp Lejeune since the 1980s. They have found that 3 water treatment plants supplied drinking water contaminated with cancer-causing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the base over the course of 30 years.

Contaminants include:

  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • Perchloroethylene (PCE)
  • Benzene
  • Vinyl chloride
